Suck List?

Haven't seen or heard anyone talk about suck lists lately... whats on yours?

Mine:

Anything wide grip overhead (snatch, overhead squat)
Breathing technique

Much shorter than the last one I had, which is a good thing I guess. I've been working on improving both, through mobility stuff and swimming. I'll admit though, I haven't been in the pool in a while and it shows.

Here's another video, since we seem to be on a roll lately. That's 165#s by the way. 8 year olds, dude.

  1. -Trying to rep 24" box jumps the same way I can rep 20" box jumps has been frustrating. When doing FGB, I've done in the 40-50 rep range in the first set on the 20" boxes. In 24" I just can't get the rhythm down.

-I learned butterly pull ups and muscle ups, but they still need work. Need to learn how to kip muscle ups, which I understand is much easier, but I still need to learn it.

-Pistols are still a work in progress, but to be honest I really don't care about them much.

-2 pood American kbs. Only really tried this once and it was a disaster.

Why don't we talk about stuff we finally crossed off our suck lists? This is all stuff I was terrible at in August but I'm proficient at now:
    -Overhead squats
    -SDHP
    -GH Raises
-simple wall balls used to tear me up
    -95# thrusters
-1.5 pood American kbs used to be very tough

  2. crossed-off list:

-1.5pood KBS, and 2pood didnt feel bad on tuesday nite
    -rowing
    -OHS
    -kipping TTB

    in the middle:
-butterflys, now that i understand how quickly one needs to reload their legs to get a rhythm, i can string 15 or so together, depending on fatigue...still need to work on getting butterfly CTB
-stringing 24" box jumps, can get about 15-18 at the moment

    suck list:

-snatch, better at it by miles, but im just weak in general and i tend to short the "hip-pop"
-BS, just weak and bad knees.
-muscle-ups, albeit never really work on them

  3. Nice discussion John.

    Current To Do List:
    -Olympic lift technique
-Muscle-ups (it took me 1 year to get 1, and then another 6 months before I got 6 more on Wednesday--sense of urgency as I found out we have them in our Sectionals training workout this week)
    -Pistols/ring-HSPU
    -General mobility

@Drywall--do you swing your arms at all on box jumps? I find this helps for stringing jumps on the "24/"30 boxes as well as getting into a good rhythm. Kind of hard to explain but I'll be down for your guys' new Grand Opening next week.

  4. I guess I'll add muscle-ups to my list as well, at least strict ones. Not making excuses, but I feel like the rings at WL are pretty wide and it makes my arms flail outwards more than usual. This makes it harder for to keep them near my chest the whole time. However, because of this I've noticed I can do them way easier on rings that are closer together.

I guess learning the hard way really does help sometimes, doesn't it?

Another one I'd add is the lockout on overhead stuff. My right shoulder tends to slip down on lockout (it dislocates) and it makes it look like the movement hasn't finished because one shoulder is lower than the other. This screwed me big time in FGB. I think the only way to correct this is continued mobility work.

  5. ahh yes, how could i forget that HSPU (not scaled) are #1 on my suck list and absolutely destroy me when they show up in AMRAPs.

furthermore, i really want to get a free-standing handstand. i have been working on some drills that will hopefully help towards that goal.

  6. @Anthony - Yes and no, I'm still tinkering with it. I do that when I do 28"+ and it works well. 24" seems to be that in between area where I just haven't figured out the best way to tackle it.

Also, keep in mind that we're currently jumping on tires, so there's that. Maybe on solid boxes it isn't an issue.

  7. I'd love to get the following:

    Heavier strict press
    hand stand pushups
    butterfly pullups/CTB
    heavier squats in general.
    And my thrusters blow.

    good things....

  8. Wow Drywall.... I think you turned this into a brag session. ;)

    Super suck list:
Anything wide grip overhead (snatch, overhead squat) I think this is part back issues and part flexibility.

    Suck list:
    HSPU's

    Goals:
Muscle up (although there is A LOT of basics I have to get down before I get this)
    Butterflies
    10 HSPU not modified
    Improved flexibility
Get better on the super suck list.

    Accomplishments:
    5 Deadhangs
    Kipping
One arm handstand. Doesn't really matter but it is fun.
    DU's (some days)

  10. I love it when people refer to box jumps as BJs. Even more so when it is "stringing BJs".
