I've been thinking about getting a dog lately. Give me ideas, I want a dog.
Post links, pics, info, whatever.
Disclaimer: I hate poodles and any other dog that enjoys having its hair permed.
Also, this is totally crossfit related. This dog is so going to be running with me... so I suppose it should be able to run?
It is also Paleo related. I will probably feed the dog various types of meats.
GET ONE!!
ReplyDeleteI got a dog a few months ago. She's the bomb. "Piper" is a 5 month old American/field Black Labrador (the taller/more slender ones).
Labs need a lot of exercise so I'm either out running with her or throwing the tennis ball to her daily. If I don't she gets pretty wound up. She's super friendly and social with other dogs/people (ie never barks). Helps to take them to dog parks as a pup (but you need to be careful before they get their shots).
I fed her a paleo/grain free diet for a while but I switched to a gluten and corn free food recently. Yes...I'm a sucker. A lot of dog foods have a ton of corn filler. make sure to read the ingredients. The food i buy isnt much more than the stuff with corn filler.
Anyway....GET ONE! IT's great. It's like always having your best buddy around. WOuld be great since you work from home. Forces you to be active outside. Total chick magnet also (if you're off the market).
I'm a proud dog dad so here are some pics...

I wish I could get a dog, but my schedule sucks too much and I would feel bad leaving it at home all the time. If I could get a dog I would get a beagle (barks alot though, but really sweet), golden retriever (cutest puppy ever!), chocolate lab, corgi, or basset hound. You can obviously see that I love dogs. I may have to settle and get the anti-dog.....a cat. lol. I really want a companion and cats don't take much work. Could I still bring a cat to the box?
ReplyDelete**ALSO we need to decide what to do with the blog. I spoke with Derek yesterday and he asked me if we were going to hook it to the main site or mesh them....something like that. He also said that we could all author on the site....he would have a topic of the day or something like that and we could all contribute to the daily blog much like we do now. I wont be at the box tonight, but maybe one of you who will be should talk to him to figure out how to go about this.**
Dogs ARE.THE.BEST.!
ReplyDeleteI grew up with a Bassethound, she was an amazing lady, Chloe. But not an active dog. I now have a Yorki-Poo (yes, a poddle mix and he DOES NOT get his hair permed but the poodle in him is super smart), his name is Maddux, after Greg Maddux not the Jolie-Pitt kid. He is a super cool 8.5lb guy.
If you get over your anti-poodle attitude, an AMAZING dog breed is the Golden-Doodle or Labra-Doodle. The poodle mixes are good for people with allergies as they do not shed (as much). I am hoping to add a Golden-Doodle to my family sometime next fall. :)
You should also look into the Bernese Mountain Dog, such a good natured dog, adorable and BIG. Definitely a dog that would run, play, cuddle and be a fantastic companion.
I HEART DOGS! You should absolutely get a little canine buddy!
@Yatta - I guess since I started the blog I can talk to D and figure out what we should do. I will be at the box tonight and will talk to him then.
ReplyDeleteI knew I was going to offend someone with my hatred towards those things, but thanks guys, good suggestions so far!
ReplyDeleteI've got a couple books about the right dog for your personality type too. I'm morbidly curious what they think would be right for me. Will read shortly and report back.
No offense taken! Maddux is AWESOME and everyone who meets him thinks so. :)
ReplyDeleteYou should look at an English Bull Terrier, basically the dog version of Barbara Streisand, or a Malamute, the inspiration for Chewbacca. We're hoping to get either one of those very soon. Both are pretty active, especially the Mal, so they will definitely give you a run for your money.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing to consider is the amount of shedding the dog will do. Long haired dogs make a real mess because they are constantly shedding. Short haired ones take less time to clean up after and are better for people with allergies.
I hate pets.
ReplyDeleteGo figure
ReplyDeleteGreat. More dog hair.
ReplyDeleteIf you want, I can get a non-shedding hypo-allergenic one and feed it 100% organic paleo?
ReplyDeleteFor real though, I grew up around shorthairs and hunting dogs so I may be going the hypo way regardless. Never know who may come to your house, or god forbid try to buy it. At least they won't sneeze too hard I guess.
Kelsey! I live with a Great Pyrenees. (also, hello. i've never commented on this blog before. He's definitely a lot in a chicago apartment.
ReplyDeleteI would always recommend the classic mutt. They usually have the best disposition. I have a pitbull pointer mix and he's the greatest. He'll get worked up when you want him to, but otherwise is calm and polite the rest of the time. He would totally go running with you, but doesn't need to work off extra energy.
