On the Road...

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good Halloween and have fully recovered from it! Here's one of the many awesome pictures taken from the CFC Halloween Party!

Today is the day that I embark on my roadtrip to the Carolinas and I am sooo excited (but I will miss you guys!). For one week I'll be traveling with my friends through North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee! My friends have never been to the South so I'm excited to show them a world of rednecks and mullets.....haha just kidding, but not at the same time....
Anyway, so as I was preparing and packing up for the long 12 hour drive, the first thing that came to mind was how I was going to keep eating Paleo on the road? Snacks are a must on long car trips, so I immediately started brainstorming some good Paleo snacks....so far I have prepared some hard boiled eggs, bought fresh fruit, beef jerky, almonds, turkey meat, and I baked some Paleo apple muffins (check the recipe out on www.everydaypaleo.com). That's pretty good for snacks right? So snacks I think I've got under control, but what about actual meals? I'll be driving all morning and through lunch time with minimal breaks which means I will need to find a quick place to eat and my friends will probably want to just get fast food....so what do I do? I guess I will be put to the test today and see...hopefully wherever I go will have atleast one good Paleo friendly option for me....What would you do to stay on top of your Paleo diet when on the road?

  1. kloo, i would bring tuperware meals in a small cooler. but knowing my friends, id probably get ridiculed for it the entire trip until i shed some tears.

yet, your snacks are smart and i bet you can struggle through one or two shitty, as-close-to-paleo-as-possible meals from a fast food joint. but another thought...protein shakes? just powder and water...lots of vitamins and rather satiating.

    best of luck and enjoy!

  2. Sorry for not posting this weekend - I had my keys accidentally taken from a friends house and wasn't able to get back into my house until 8 this AM. That SUCKED. Back on track now.

As for being on the road, thats always tricky. I just try to remember that most places will make you whatever you want if you ask ... even if you get weird looks while doing so :)

  3. Happy November! I am not going to share all of my cheats for the weekend...except for one. The Hubby and I are avid fans of the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and also like to locate our own city food treasures. One of my MANY cheats this weekend was an Apple Fritter from Old Fashioned Donuts - 11248 S. Michigan Ave. Never had an apple fritter before - DELICIOUS! I look forward to having another one in a year or so. :)

Road Trip Snacks: Raw Veggies like carrots, celery, cucumber, nuts, dried fruits and I agree with Tom a protein shake with just powder and H20 is good. Drive Safe & Have Fun!

  5. Wow Kelsey!! That's awesome!!! Way to go.

Have a great trip Kristine. :) Sounds like good times.

It's a wash for paleo with yesterday and today. My stomach still isn't quite right and I've been eating sprouted grain bread and white rice. Protein and fruit just aren't working for me until I'm done with this stomach thing.

  6. Hey everyone! Well, this weekend was a MAJOR cheat. I am not even going to go into all of the stuff I shoved into my mouth. At least it was my first cheat though:) I am back on track now and I will be posting today's food log tomorrow. Good luck everyone! See some of you later at the gym:)

  7. Just had to share about a new product I've just learned about.

Tanka Bars! Tanka, as in Buffalo. It's a protein bar made from Buffalo jerky and cranberries. Can't get much more paleo than this. See link: http://www.tankabar.com/cgi-bin/nanf/public/products.cvw?sessionid=2cc2e8216c67bbfb6881cd57e1eb279ca12e2b820316cb

Another cool product I learned about a couple weeks back are paleo kits. In the spirit of today's post by Kristine, I'm thinking these may be a nice paleo safety net for any trip. See link: http://www.stevesoriginal.com/store
