Please Don't Test My Gangsta'

I don't know about you guys, but it seems like when people find out that I do Crossfit they find the need to challenge me physically in some way. It is really odd. For instance, on Sunday I decided to work out with a close friend and her personal trainer. The trainer was immediately evil to me...her greeting was "Oh, you are the one who does Crossfit....well after the workout tell me if the workout is just as grueling as your Crossfit workout". WTH? Not a "hello, my name is Jackass..." or anything. From that point on she took the workout to an extreme and turned it into a competetition between myself and my friend to see who is "stronger". She basically needed to know if her personal training was better than Crossfit. Again I say...WTH? I just wanted to come support my girl while she worked out with your ass, not become your own personal little lab rat. I cannot even front, the workout WAS brutal. My poor friend looked like she was going to die because this trainer turned up the heat so much just to try and prove a point. Ultimately, I won the "competition" by one exercise. Yippidy doo...how do you like those apples Psychohoe Trainer?

Have you guys been challenged in some way physically by anyone or is it just me? This is not the first time this has happened to me. I have a couple of friends who do it all the time...claiming they can out lift me or run longer....blah blah blah. What are your experiences with people who automatically equate your being a Crossfitter with the need to challenge your physical prowess? Next time they try it calmly tell them "B*itch, please do not test my gangsta..." I bet that will shut their ass up. (Excuse my thug friends....I try not to swear, but oh well....thug lawyer here:)

**Oh, sorry for the later than usual post...My ass was being worked hard as heck this morning:(

  1. I must hang out with a bunch of softies. Everyone i talk to about crossfit either says it's too hardcore for them or that they don't have the discipline to do any working out. They all, however, think i'm a f'ing loon for being mildly obsessed with it. No negativity, though.

  2. People want to challenge me all the time, but I just give them a look and they back the fuck down. What.

i second tyler's statement more so than drywall's (most likely due to my stature).

  4. Funny post! I love the way that you write.. just like you talk. I can actually hear you in my head as I read it. :)

I usually find my co-workers are the least supportive. Especially when it comes to lunch choices or leaving on time to make it to the gym. A few people ride their bikes to work, but not many actually workout. A couple of my close girlfriends give me a hard time about working out so much and not meeting then out all the time for drinks and dinner. That is really the hardest for me.

  6. To be honest, I really don't talk about CrossFit to my friends much. I'm fully aware of how insane you come across when you talk about it and prefer not to have to deal with it. I have a few friends who are into working out that I'm trying to convince to give it a shot, but with the ones who I know will never work out I don't even bother. And I'll never talk about it to my co-workers, no way.

My challenge tonight should be fun, aside from the fact that I can't do deadlifts so we need to mod it. Doesn't matter. Handstand pushups are my bitch.

  7. Thanks everyone:)I'm glad that you guys liked it! I am NEVER working out with that trainer from hell again. She even made me do "her version" of burpees...then she had my ass jumping back and forth over the biggest barbell she could find...knowing I am clumsy and will kick that sucker over! lol. I think I will invite her to the box so that she can terrorize us all!

Good luck tonight Drywall! You are going to BEAST that jerk!

  8. Lol nice post. I definitely have not been challenged yet but I'm sure it would be hilarious.

Off-topic but would it be weird to wear soccer shin guards during dead-lift or power clean WODs? Lately I've really been struggling with a bar-shin scraping habit, never bothered me before.

  9. Get some high socks man - you can get 'sort of' high compression socks at TJMaxx and Marshalls for cheap. I got a pair of Nike and UnderArmour ones. They help a ton.

JohnG even mentioned that some boxes actually require them on Dead days! They are worth the few extra bucks and you can look sweet haha ;)

  10. Sorry, by 'sort of' I meant that they aren't technically compression socks, but they are really high and add a bit of compression.
