October 21, 2010, marked the first post to this blog. We were all excited and committed, and didn’t even know exactly where we were headed with the blog or with paleo!
A strong 4+ weeks later, where are we today? Where do you want to take this blog? Are you still committed to posting?
I look forward to checking our blog every day and hope you do as well. Is there anything that we can change, add, remove that would make it more beneficial for you? For others?
Love the blog! I'm still committed and have enjoyed getting to know everyone better via this outlet.

ReplyDeleteLast night, my hubby encouraged me to make the pumpkin pie that I said I was going to make for Thanksgiving - the ingredients would soon have been wasted due to expiration dates. First, it was not that good but I still ate 2 pieces and felt nauseous (and terribly mad and guilty) all night. Then, this morning I went to the cafe to get my normal 1 egg white - 1 yolk scrambled eggs and for some reason switched and went for a green pepper, onion, mushroom...wait for it....american cheese omelet. One or two cheats makes me feel like I am back at square one. I am throwing the pumpkin pie out tonight b/c I just don't need it in the house. But, why all of a sudden are my choices so terrible and disgusting? Yes, I am asking for HELP!
Hi Ladies and Gents,
ReplyDeleteI'm going to hop back on here if you'll have me:)
I've gotten pretty basic w/ my meals lately and i generally eat the same thing daily except I switch up the meat. Here's what I’ve eaten daily this week (collectively each day).
16oz sautéed frozen veggies -broc, cauli and carrots- from Aldi (99cents/bag).
2 eggs, some egg white
1/2-1cup pico (from Stanley's or another fresh produce market)
1 large avocado
A couple oz of either sweet potatoes or some sort of starchy squash (I usually just throw this in while I’m sautéing the veggies)
Pear or apple
Clementine or some pineapple chunks (Stanley’s has had cheap Pineapple lately - tasted f'ing good w/ a little heavy whipping cream or coconut milk)
Coffee (lots) w/ heavy whipping cream
12-16 oz of meat - this week it's been chicken, sirloin steak, ground turkey, pork roast or turkey sausage (w/ the natural casing removed...grosses me out for some reason)
Protein powder after workout (heavy on isolate)
I usually eat the eggs/spinach/pico/meat for my first meal. Then I mix the veggies, remaining meat and avocado/pico mixture and spread that out for 2-3 meals the rest of the day. Pretty boring but easy.
I saw a lot of you guys talking about how the 90/10 or 80/20 is structured. Similar to what John said, I usually eat 35 times a week (including small snacks). My estimate is that about 3-5 of those meals have some sort of non paleo aspect whether it’s rice, bread, pizza, ice cream, crushing brewdogs etc). I guess you could look at it calorically also but that seems tedious.
I’ve been on the 80/20-90/10 since March of this year and have felt great. I think I’m still getting leaner and maintaining/increasing strength and endurance so I’m considering this a long term life style choice. However, if I spend a weekend binging on crap every so often, I’m not going to beat myself up too much. I think the benefits will still be there.
See some of you tonight for “Jackie.”

Hey Rae, you are so not at square one!!! Believe me, this is all part of the process. You ate a piece of pumpkin pie. . . it's all good. It's just food.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that cheese you ate is telling you something. You are craving something fatty. It was probably a good thing you ate some. There is contingent in the Paleo world that believes some diary (a neolithic food) is good to keep in the diet until you are able to get by on Paleo without it.
I still eat some cheese and think nothing of it. Sometimes I'll put heavy whipping cream in my tea instead of coconut oil. It just flat out tastes better, and it's not going to kill me to have it every now and then.
Rae, you are doing great!!! No worries chica.
One thing my old nutritionist told me that really stuck with me is that the stress from thinking you are cheating can actually keep weight on your body. Stress is never good, unless you're running from a lion or doing a CF WOD. So, don't stress lady!!
Your food choices aren't terrible and disgusting. You only had two pieces of pie and some American Cheese. It's not like you ate 2 baskets of onion rings an Italian Beef and an ice cream sundae. LOL! Even if you did, you just continue on with a better choice for you next meal.
One thing I really hope this blog accomplishes is helping all of us keep a level head when it comes to food. The last thing we want is to become so obsessive about "cheats" that we border on Orthorexia. Coming from the Raw Vegan movement, I've witnessed a lot of this. I was a crazy person when it came to what I did and didn't eat, and it was extremely stressful and honestly not worth it.
Everyone is doing great!!! Just keep trying. This is a life long process and not a quick fix. Cheats are a part of the process. :)
Thanks Kels! It does help, for sure. I think the worst part about "cheating" for me, is how isolated it makes me feel - like I am the only one who does not have the control.
ReplyDelete@ tyler...debating WL "jackie" or endurance WOD:
ReplyDeleteon C2,
3x 3min intervals (1 min recovery in between)
rest 2min, then
5x 1min intervals (:30 recovery)
both are enticing...decisions, decisions...
If you have not met "Jackie"...you need to.
ReplyDeleteJackie rules, listen to Rae :P
ReplyDeleteWatch this haha:

You guys should do it for sure.
I don't think I'm going to do any lifting or a metcon tomorrow, just the endurance wod from today. Need rest for Sat AM!
Wow...I am so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful and supportive group! It is nice to see that I am not the only one struggling! We are not even going to discuss what I have been munching on the last few days. While I have made terrible choices I have also learned a few lessons.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first holiday season as a full time worker and I was totally un-prepared for the office parties every few days and all of the other food that is thrown at you. I have to be strong enough to not eat something just because it is there or everyone else is doing it. I did so well the first 4-5 weeks of this, but that was when I was only being tested in the office once or twice a week. Now it is everyday!
I have also learned that while I knew it was important to be prepared....it really is the most important thing for me. This is part of the reason I have failed this week. After traveling for Thanksgiving I came back late Sunday night and did not get ANY groceries. There is NOTHING in my fridge and nothing prepared for the week. So I left myself at the mercy of my environment and what is available to eat. I am traveling again this weekend, but I will cook for next week's work week before I leave and freeze it:)
All in all I think we are all doing a great job. We have our moments where we fall off but it is super important to get back on. We know that we hate the way we feel when we eat like shit, so we just have to do better. I miss sleeping good and not needing coffee during the day:)
Rae...I LOVB this blog. It gives me something to keep me from doing real work and I too love getting to know you guys better. Besides, I learn great things from you guys every day! I am so happy to see that our comments are picking back up. Time for us to start posting our food again. With that being said....I am about to air my DIRTY food laundry for the day so far. Kristine...I need you to get on my ass! I think we all need our "bad guys" now more than ever:)
Kenyatta Faileo Log for today thus far:
Breakfast--egg white omelet with ham, green peppers, onions, and a table spoon of feta
Snack--Half hot cocoa/half coffee...I know I know!
Lunch--it gets worse...Chicken Pad-effing Thai and 3 crab rangoons! I had a working lunch with two other lawyers and I gave in:(
Snack--soy chai
I usually wouldn't post until tomorrow, but I need to be held accountable. This 80/20% of each meal obviously isn't working for me. So I will do Paleo 100% during the work week and on the weekend allow 2 good cheat meals. Sorry for the LONG post, but I miss you guys:)
Btw....Rae my love, that is a SUPER cute picture...Kenyatta loves the cats! Also, my shoulder feels so much better, but I will listen to John and James and not rush into the heavy weights even though it feels better.
ReplyDeleteI ran into James on the way to the Thai restaurant at lunch today...I think he put a HEX on me and that is why I really over-ate:)
John - Holy Crap that is ridiculous!! I would be so mad.

ReplyDeleteI love this blog. Seeing you guys discuss your food obsessions like anorexic 16 year olds provides me with endless entertainment.
ReplyDeleteYatta's Thai restaurant was located conveniently next to a Duncan Donuts. I'll leave it at that.
I had a pretzel bread sandwich for lunch. Pretzel bread really is the bees knees. I really think if I could get pretzel bread and spread it with a mixture of chocolate and peanut butter, it would be like...hmm, I was never good at making analogies but it would be very tasty, I assure you.
I'm bring the non-paleo fudge on Saturday. It tastes great with beer. We can all enjoy it together as we talk about CrossFit, how we got into CrossFit, favorite things about CrossFit, and this just in: injuries we've sustained while doing CrossFit.
See you Saturday.
LOL! James, you are the best. :)
